Spring 2008 Program Announced

PCYT is seeking energetic youth between the ages of 9-13, with an interest in storytelling, acting, dance, and multi-media to participate in the Spring 2008 program.

The spring program will meet twice a week beginning in January 2008 and will culminate with a multi-media storytelling performance in June.

Four weeks ago, each of the youngsters (between the ages of 9-13) showed up
for a summer performance camp experience.  The instructors not
only coached them in the performing arts but, we brought forth some heavy
lessons in African American history and society.

Each child sucked it up.  There's not one in the group that lagged behind or
seemed uninterested.  We further extended our history research and
discussion to focus on youth as leaders.  A week into the process, the youth
decided they wanted to do a performance piece that made reference to the
Soweto Uprising in 1976-77 where youth lead protests that helped to end
aparthied in South Africa.

I hope you have the opportunity to see the performance.  If by chance you
are not able to - please just keep in mind that while there is a lot going
on in our world - THERE IS SO MUCH HOPE!

Summer Performance Camp

The Summer Performance Camp is a pretty vigorous program. The kids really seemed to have fun last year but it's work. There is a lot of performing - singing, dance, acting, storytelling and whatever else youth bring to the group. There is also a significant amount of reading, writing and history. You do have to know a few things about reading, writing and history to be a performer.
